Mount Faber Park & Labrador Park

Monday morning we got up real early (6:00am) to catch sunrise from the skypark. It was clearer than on Sunday, but still cloudy to the east.

We chilled in the hot tub for most of our time up there, because the pool was still quite cold, and the sun was rising on the hot tub side. But after not getting to see too much due to cloud, we headed back to the room for a nap before getting up and checking out.

When we got up, we hit the skypark again, hoping things had cleared a bit, which thankfully they did.

Despite being small, Singapore has a fairly modern, large, and active military. There is mandatory service, and they do a fair bit of training throughout the year. However, being small and with not very much airspace, most of their training happens right over the city. This was one of numerous times, we got to see F-16s flying overhead.

We wandered out onto the observation deck (the only spot you can access without being a hotel guest) and got a bit different view towards the northeast. Yes this is a soccer pitch that they have reclaimed on top of the marina.

We checked out, cabbed back to Andrews, then went to a local place for chicken rice, a quintessential Singaporian dish. The rice is cooked in chicken stock, and the chicken has a delicious sauce on it. Everybody makes it their own little bit different way, it’s all very good, and none of it is overly healthy for you.

We got all packed up for the day and took a cab up to Mount Faber Park. It is one of the high points on the island, and where the cable car starts for going to Sentosa Island, but we were there to hike along the trails.

We walked through the trails and I was amazed at how empty it was. There was rarely another person at all.

There were a bunch of signs warning you about monkeys, not to approach or feed them, but unfortunately we didn’t see any. However, we did find a really cool pedestrian bridge.

There was a really cool platform walk in the trees, but it was closed halfway down for some slope stability work.

So with us being stopped by the construction work, we doubled back, and cut down to the coast to the Labrador Nature Reserve. It is right down on the water and had some old gun emplacements that were there.

We took the MRT down to Harbourfront, but just stopped in the food court to get something to eat as it had been a ton of walking on just the chicken rice in the morning. We went to Superdog for hotdogs, and the best part is they are 100% chuck.

We took the MRT back up past Little India to walk back to Andrew’s and passed a temple along the way. Since we were both in shorts, we couldn’t go inside to check it out.

We got back to Andrew’s and it had been a ton of walking for the day, so it was good just to take a little break with the shoes off. In the evening we went to Jumbo’s at Dempsey to get Singapore Chili Crab. I don’t know how else to describe it aside from AMAZING!

We were hoping to make it to the Night Safari at the zoo, but unfortunately dinner took a bit too long and that will have to be pushed back to another night.
