Marina Bay Sands Part II

After lunch we got changed and headed up to the Infinity pool, which was a very cool experience.

It’s not like you can fall off the roof or anything, the water flows off the edge into a catchment, and if you try to go up on the ledge or sit on it, the lifeguards use their whistles and yell at you. However, it does yield a very good illusion.

After spending some time in the pool and the hot tubs (which are on the edge facing the bay, but not nearly as “fall off the end of the world” as they have a big piece of plexiglass on the edge of them, we headed back to the room to get dressed up and ready for dinner. On the way to dinner we stopped to check out a water show in the bay, but it was pretty basic, and it was raining, so we didn’t stay for long.

We went to Daniel Boulud Bistro Moderne and had a formal dinner.

Their specialty is their burgers, so after a couple of appetizers, we each went for their ultimate one, which has fois grois, in the centre. It was quite good.

Alcohol in Singapore is taxed quite heavily. There aren’t liquor stores per se, but you can get things at your larger 7-Elevens and such. A six pack of beer costs S$25, a 26 of Smirnoff costs S$75, and most bottles of wine start at S$35. So at dinner getting a S$100 bottle of wine (the second cheapest on the list) when you know you can get it for about $20CDN back home, is a little tough, but when in Rome…

After dinner, we stopped by the casino in the area. Gambling is looked down upon by the government, so Singaporian citizens have to pay S$100 to enter the casino. It’s essentially a way to get money from foreigners who work here, and tourists. Thus, there are only two casinos here, one at the Marina Bay Sands, and one on Sentosa Island. I’m not sure if there were space limitation but everything is just jammed all together in this one. It is a huge main floor with two mezzanines that surround it. I’m not sure if it’s from the layout, but looking from the mezzanine, I think it’s one of the largest casinos I’ve seen.

The limits on the tables were fairly high, but I managed to get some space on a S$25 blackjack one and turned S$50 into S$100. Andrew isn’t as much of a gambler as me put S$50 on roulette on black, and won. So after both doubling up, we headed back to the hotel and up to the Ku De Ta bar on the skypark. It was pretty dark up there, and the drinks were expensive (S$48 for one each), but we chilled there for a bit before heading off to bed.
