On Sunday, I got up when Andrew was getting home from work, and he picked me up breakfast on the way. It was a KFC wrap, along with a curry puff and two char siew puff from a bakery. We watched the end of the Jets game (he has the NHL Centre Ice Package here), and it’s still obscure getting used to the time change of waking up on Sunday morning to watch Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night back home.
Andrew went to bed, and I watched the Oilers-Flames game (I don’t want to talk about it), and on intermission, I wandered through Andrew’s apartment complex and took some pictures. Andrew is on the 7th floor of a 34 storey apartment in the Balestier area of Singapore. It’s a nice gated complex, with a pool, a small gym, and a tennis court on top of the parking garage on the 5th floor, and a couple hot tubs and sitting spaces up on the 14th floor. From that area on the 14th floor, you can see some of the surroundings.
Including the Marina Bay Sands hotel where we were off to.
We took a cab there, and got in just after 3:00 when check in started. The hotel is three 57 floor towers with a skypark roof that spans all three (the part shaped like a boat or surfboard) and that is where the pool area is, right on the edge of the roof. The lobby was packed and there was a big line up to check in, but it looked absolutely incredible inside.
We had a room on the 19th floor, with two super twin beds, and a great view out over Marina Bay.
The first order of business was heading up to check out the skypark, with a view of the Singapore Straight on one side, with all the ships moored there, and a view of the Infinity Pool and downtown skyline on the other.
Being hungry after not eating since the morning, we headed off to the attached mall (again filled with high end stores: Chanel, Burberry, Coach, etc.) and down to the food court for lunch. Food courts don’t have the same connotation as back home, and people here like going to them for a variety of food options, knowing that most places there serve quite good food, and prices that are only slightly higher than hawker markets. I had some Char Hung Siew which was really good.
For dessert, Andrew grabbed us some Ice Ka-Chang which I was not a fan of. Just some really obscure tastes put together, and topped with creamed corn.
